Common Terms

- Bi-annual reproductive cycle - sharks that take a year off between cycles.

Cosmopolitan - wide range, found everywhere, and/or world wide.

Flank - sides of the body

Dorsal side - The upper side of the body.

Dusky (color) - a dark color like smoke, but not black.

Heterocercal Tail - One lobe of the caudal fin is larger then the other.

Homocercal Tail - both lobes of the caudal fin are of equal size.

Interdorsal ridge - A ridge the runs from the first dorsal fin to the second dorsal fin.

Ventral side - The underside of the body.
