Common Terms

- Bi-annual reproductive cycle - sharks that take a year off between cycles.
- Cosmopolitan - wide range, found everywhere, and/or world wide.
- Flank - sides of the body
- Dorsal side - The upper side of the body.
- Dusky (color) - a dark color like smoke, but not black.
- Heterocercal Tail - One lobe of the caudal fin is larger then the other.
-Homocercal Tail - both lobes of the caudal fin are of equal size.
- Interdorsal ridge - A ridge the runs from the first dorsal fin to the second dorsal fin.
- Ventral side - The underside of the body.
