Texas Shark Rodeo

This contest runs from January 1, 2007 through December 31, 2007. This is sponsored by Big Lou and Coastal Shark Fishing. The goal for it is to gather information on where, when, and how sharks are caught for future use by anglers and biologists. There is no money pay off. The information will be used to create a book to aid fishermen and researchers. February 28, 2007 is the deadline for teams to register. You can registering by sending a private message to BeachBum on the Coastal Shark Fishing Message Board. You may also register by EMAILING the information.

Rules

1) Five person teams. The teams will be limited to anglers that fish Texas beaches. Kid Clause - Up to two kids 16 years of age or younger may fish with a team. If they catch a shark ON THE TEAM MEMBER'S TACKLE, then the shark counts towards the team's total.

2) Team members must be on good terms with the Coastal Shark Fishing message board. Coastal Shark Fishing administrator reserves the right to not allow an individual or team to enter the rodeo, as well as reserving the right to disqualify a individual or team for unsportsmanlike conduct or becoming on bad terms with the Coastal Shark Fishing  message board. This includes any form of cheating and not turning in the data in a timely manner.

3) Sharks only. Must attempt to release.

4) May fish from beaches, piers, or jetties. Fish caught from boats will not be accepted.

5) This will be a detailed log format. Information such as dates, locations, angler, team, weather conditions, bait, species, gender, etc. **Important** Angler, team name, species of shark, total length, date of capture, and location of capture is required to qualified for the rodeo. 6) A picture for sharks over 4' must be turned in to be counted. There must be something in the image to judge scale.

7) Each team needs a team captain. Team captains are responsible for keeping track of log books, turning information in, and maintaining communication for the team. Information of catches must be turned in on a regular basis within a reasonable amount of time. A reasonable amount of time is one month or less. Some exception may be made with the proper reason.

8) Team mates do not have to fish with their own team to have their fish count towards their team's total points. However, if the rod is handed off DURING the fight, then the fish belongs to the person who lands this fish. Exceptions will be for those handing off the rod for purposes of landing.

9) No substitutions for a team mate will be allowed after the start date. Additional team members can be added, not to exceed the 5 member team limit, until the cut off date for registering. However, sharks caught that year prior to be added to the team do not count.
 

Point System:
Under 3' = 1 point
3' to less than 4' = 2 points
4' to less than 5' = 10 points
5' to less than 6' = 20 points
6' to less than 7' = 40 points
7' and greater = 80 points

Disclaimers:
-All results are to used by Big Lou for his purposes. A written/email request can be sent to Big Lou for permission of use of data to a participant. Participants that don't agree with the use of data do not have to report their catches and will not count towards their team's score.

-Coastal Shark Fishing reserves the right to not allow certain individuals or teams for participating.
